Fooding update: The ice jam that sunk Eagle Village and swamped the newer, nearby community of Eagle shifted last night. The water rose even higher, pushing ice over a retaining wall and slamming "house size" chunks of ice into buildings along Front Street, according to the National Weather Service.
Then, this morning, rising waters "lifted some buildings along Front Street off of their foundations and sent them down the Yukon River," the Weather Service reports.
Front Street is one of the main streets in Eagle, facing the river. Both communities are just west of the Canadian border.

The Weather Service is calling this the town's worst flood on record.
UPDATE: The National Park Service had to use a helicopter to rescue a couple and two dozen sled dogs who live about 12 miles outside of Eagle. At least one sled dog didn't make it, according to the Park Service.
The couple saved the rest of the dogs by putting them in canoes, tethered to the second story of the home. At one point, they had to flee to the roof, and it took the copter six or seven trips to get everyone to safety. (More on that later.)
The National Weather Service has issued a flood watch on the Yukon River, through Thursday afternoon, from Circle to the Yukon River bridge.
The danger is that when the ice jam that is flooding Eagle breaks, it could send a wall of water downriver.
"It is possible that Circle could experience the worst flooding in recent memory," the Weather Service says.
They've declared a flood warning for the community, and issued a "flood watch" for Fort Yukon, Beaver and Stevens Village.
